If you're craving a European style grocery store and/or a taste of Russia, Troika Gastronom is for you! Ample sweet and savory snacks and meal starters alongside a small selection of wine and frozen options. It was fun to peruse the shelves, hear bits of Russian all around me, and to walk away with some new treats to try. Definitely worth a visit!

I feel like I just stepped into Russia. What an authentic experience! Im half Ukrainian and have forgotten most of my Russian but enjoyed trying to figure out pricing through their broken English and my broken Russian. (The owner speaks English though if you're worried.) Everything I was looking for was there including that skinny sausage (kabanos) and vareniky. Yes actual Ukrainian vareniky, not Polish pierogies. I feel like I could have spent a long time just peering at all their offerings. Pickled tomatoes, kvas, Russian candy, Russian medicine, Russian wine, and more! I was sad that the restaurant seemed to be closed. I hope they stay in business, because they seem like good people.

My dad really took the concept of "treat yo' self" to heart towards the end of 2020 and decided he absolutely needed to have caviar before the year ended. So mom and I conspired to surprise him with a fancy spread for Christmas Day brunch, and I took it upon myself to find the best Sturgeon roe under $100 I could find (and yeah, I can already hear the laughs from those of you with actual experience purchasing caviar). My search led me here, to the incredible Russian market at the back of the Troika Gastronom restaurant. I've never been to Moscow but as soon as I walked in, I felt as though I'd been transported there. The store is a decent size and is very well-stocked with authentic Russian products: cookies and crackers, chocolates and candies, smoked meats and fish, jars of fruit preserves (so much jam), jarred and canned fish. While my target was caviar, I couldn't help pick up a jar of sardines and smoked herring. The prices are possibly on the higher end but the selection is incredible! And when I say this place is authentic, I mean it. The packaging of the products is in Russian, the friendly staff are Russian, the customers are Russian. Heck, on the day I visited they were even playing classic Russian cartoons on an overhead TV. Just a few days before Christmas, the store was packed and the lines were long, (mostly) with families stocking up on smoked fish and deli meats. When it was finally my turn to ask the lady at the counter for caviar (because this fancy stuff isn't sitting on a shelf), she showed me the two kinds they carried: one priced at $116; the other, at $194. I very nicely asked if there was anything in the $50-60 range, and she very nicely responded, "No". So I gave her a smile behind my mask, she smiled too (I think), and we parted ways. I finally found caviar in my price range at Wegmans (go figure). So while I didn't walk away with what is likely the best caviar in town, I was very happy with my sardines and smoked herring, both of which I'm still enjoying today and are delicious! Really enjoyed this place and looking forward to returning to discover more Russian delicacies.

It's my favorite Russian deli for many years. I love buying Russian deserts and delicious chocolate candies here. I tried many Russian delis in DMV area, it's still number ONE for me. The Olivie salat is a must try!

It's been a while, Troika! When I checked this place out a few years back, I only checked out their Gastronom, a mart that offered specialty foods, such as chocolates and breads. However, recently, we came here for a group get-together for dinner, and it was such a treat! I ordered the Pirozhki, which came with various filling options (meat, berries, apples, cabbage, or potatoes) - I opted for the potatoes, and I was pleasantly surprised that there were sliced mushrooms in there as well (just a heads up!) - the bread itself was warm and fluffy, and it had a great ratio of the mashed potatoes and the sliced mushrooms. I could definitely see myself eating these everyday for a snack or for breakfast! We had the Herring Under Coat (aka Herring Under a Fur Coat) appetizer - this was very pretty to look at (the pink from the beets), but if you like herring, this is a great spread to start off. Great to smear on the housebaked rye bread - YUM! For the main entree, I had the Beef Stroganoff, with onions, garlic, lemon, and spices - this is not your typical Stroganoff with the pasta/noodles; this was more of a sliced tender beef in a thick creamy sauce, served with a side of kasha, aka buckwheat grain (think of quinoa/barley/ancient grains). There were also sliced fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. This was filling, hearty, and delicious! I was just a little surprised that most of the entrees came with a sprinkle of cilantro - luckily, these weren't cooked down with the meal and was only a garnish on the top. The portions are generous and can easily be divided into 2-3 meals! Our server, Ms. Olga, was so sweet - she was hilarious, had a great sense of humor, and made some great recommendations. She was great at balancing - checking in with us and allowing us to have time to chit-chat. The ambiance was very laid-back, comfortable, and relaxing. I can see this place getting busy during the lunch and the dinner rush - I can't wait to go back and try out their other dishes! I'll see you soon, Troika! +Herring Under Coat appetizer +Pirozhkis +Beef Stroganoff +housebaked bread +generous portions! +ask for Ms. Olga +friendly service +mini gastonom/mart in the back +plenty of parking in shared plaza lot

Borscht soup like one you can get back home. Great Eastern food, with Soviet style seasoning. I really enjoyed the dish and will be coming back!!

One of the best grocery stores in the area for non-American items! This is the place to go for canned goods (they even have canned squid and octopus), European candy/chocolates, Russian Rye Bread and VERY good, must try deli meat! I think the pricing is very reasonable, the white price tag is the price you pay if you're buying ONE of that item, and the orange price tag applies if you are buying THREE or more. See? Not that confusing at all:) The staff is kind, they may speak to you in Russian at first but they do speak enough English to answer your questions, you just have to ask questions if you have them. The store is on the smaller side, but so organized and clean that I can look past that. Also: I will add this as a tip too, but you must pay by cash if you are spending $10.00 or less, credit&debit for anything above that.
